What to Wear for Your Pre-Wedding Shoot: A Couple's Style Guide
Clothes can make or break a pre-wedding shoot. Here's our complete guide to colours, fabrics, and styling that photographs beautifully in Kerala's landscapes.
One of the most common questions we get before a pre-wedding shoot is: "What should we wear?" It seems simple, but the right clothing choices can dramatically elevate your images. Here's everything we tell our couples.
Coordinate, Don't Match
The most common mistake couples make is wearing identical colours — both in red, both in white, both in navy. This looks great in theory but often reads as flat in photographs. Instead, coordinate: choose a colour palette (earthy tones, jewel tones, pastels) and let each outfit complement the other without being identical.
Fabric Matters More Than You Think
Light, flowy fabrics — chiffon, georgette, linen, silk — move beautifully in Kerala's breeze and catch light in ways that synthetic fabrics simply don't. For men, linen shirts and light cotton kurtas photograph exceptionally well in outdoor Kerala settings.
Avoid busy patterns and fine stripes — they create an unpleasant moiré effect in photographs. Solid colours and subtle textures are your friends.
Consider the Location
If you're shooting in the backwaters, consider the colour of the water (blue-green), the coconut palms (deep green), and the golden light. Warm tones — terracotta, mustard, rust, deep green — look extraordinary in this palette.
For a fort or heritage location, jewel tones — emerald, burgundy, cobalt — photograph beautifully against old stone.
For a beach at sunrise, pastels — blush, lavender, soft blue — glow in the morning light.
Bring an Outfit Change
We always recommend two outfits for a pre-wedding shoot. The first can be more formal — a lehenga and sherwani or a saree and formal shirt. The second can be lighter and more casual — a sundress and linen trousers, or a floral lehenga and simple kurta. This gives your gallery visual variety.
A Note on Accessories and Jewellery
For women: statement jewellery photographs beautifully. Don't hold back. For men: a watch, a pocket square, or a dupatta adds visual interest without overwhelming.
Hair and makeup should be your regular elevated look — not a dramatic departure that makes you feel unlike yourself. The most beautiful photographs happen when people feel comfortable and confident.
