5 Pre-Wedding Shoot Locations in Kerala You Haven't Thought Of
Beyond the backwaters and tea estates — here are five unexpected Kerala locations that make for extraordinary pre-wedding photographs.
Everyone loves the Alleppey backwaters. Everyone wants the Munnar tea estates. And those are beautiful — we shoot there often and love them. But if you want images that stand apart, here are five locations most couples haven't considered.
1. Bekal Fort, Kasaragod
Bekal Fort is one of the largest and best-preserved forts in Kerala. The circular ramparts, the dramatic drop to the sea, the ancient stone textures — this is a location that gives you architectural grandeur and natural beauty in equal measure. Shoot at golden hour and you'll have images that look like a period film.
2. Thenmala: The Sculpture Garden and Suspension Bridge
Thenmala, Kerala's first planned eco-tourism destination, has a suspension bridge over the Kallada river and a stunning sculpture garden that almost nobody uses for pre-wedding shoots. The lush forest canopy and the dramatic bridge geometry make for striking compositions.
3. Parambikulam Tiger Reserve
With the right permits and a guide, the edges of Parambikulam offer a wildlife backdrop unlike anything else in Kerala. Ancient teak trees, misty valleys, and the sense of being the only people for miles. This is for the adventurous couple.
4. Fort Kochi's Heritage Lanes
Most couples shoot at the Chinese fishing nets. But the real magic of Fort Kochi is in the narrow heritage lanes behind Jew Town — the Dutch-era architecture, the bougainvillea spilling over colonial walls, the antique shop windows. These streets are a photographer's dream.
5. Varkala Cliffs at Sunrise
Varkala is known, but it's almost always photographed at sunset. Come at sunrise — before the tourists arrive — and the north cliff gives you dramatic red laterite formations, the Arabian Sea below, and that incredible Kerala morning light that makes everything glow.
