Goa vs Rajasthan: Which is Better for a Destination Wedding?

Two of India's most spectacular wedding destinations, compared. We break down venues, weather, costs, and the photography opportunities each location offers.

Goa and Rajasthan represent two very different visions of the Indian destination wedding — and both are extraordinary. Goa offers the romance of the ocean, colonial Portuguese architecture, lush tropical greenery, and a relaxed, bohemian spirit. Rajasthan delivers grandeur on an entirely different scale: desert forts, lake palaces, vibrant colours, and a sense of royal heritage that feels almost cinematic. Your choice depends entirely on the mood and aesthetic you want to create.

From a photography standpoint, both destinations offer world-class backdrops. Goa's beaches provide natural golden-hour light that is unmatched, particularly at venues like the Leela, the Taj Exotica, and the W. Rajasthan offers something more structured and dramatic — the havelis, marble ghats of Udaipur, and the golden dunes outside Jaisalmer photograph magnificently at any time of day, with a richness of colour and texture that requires minimal additional decoration.

Weather is a critical factor. Goa weddings work best from November through February — outside these months, humidity and the monsoon make outdoor celebrations challenging. Rajasthan is similarly best in the cooler months, though the desert state remains more predictable year-round. Both destinations become very hot from March through May, which can affect guest comfort and outdoor coverage.

Costs differ significantly. Rajasthan's palace hotels — the Taj Lake Palace in Udaipur, Umaid Bhawan in Jodhpur, Rambagh Palace in Jaipur — are among the most expensive wedding venues in India, with minimums running into tens of lakhs. Goa offers greater variety at multiple price points, from intimate beach properties to large luxury resorts, making it accessible to a wider range of budgets.

For photography, we recommend Rajasthan for couples who want heritage, grandeur, and a more formal aesthetic. We recommend Goa for those seeking a relaxed, editorial, and naturally lit beach wedding. Camrin Films has photographed weddings extensively in both destinations and brings the same cinematic storytelling approach to each — adapting our style to the mood and setting your venue creates.
