Aerial Drone Photography at Kerala Weddings: What You Need to Know
Drone footage adds a cinematic scale to wedding films that no other technique can match. Here's everything couples need to know about drone coverage in Kerala.
There's a shot that has become iconic in Kerala wedding films: the drone rising slowly above the coconut palms, revealing the backwaters stretching to the horizon, the houseboat gliding through the gold-and-pink reflection of sunset, the couple standing on the deck. It's the shot that makes audiences exhale.
Drone cinematography has transformed wedding films. Here's everything you need to know about it.
What Drone Coverage Actually Adds
The primary value of drone footage is establishing shots — images that situate your wedding in its landscape, that show the scale of your venue, that provide visual breathing room in your film. A drone pulling back from a beach ceremony to reveal the Arabian Sea behind it is something no ground-based camera can replicate.
For photograph stills, drone images give you images of crowd formations (like the traditional Kerala wedding family group shot), venue aerial views, and sweeping landscape compositions.
DGCA Regulations in India
All commercial drone operations in India require DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation) certification and flight permissions. This includes wedding photography. At Camrin Films, our drone operators hold current DGCA Remote Pilot Certificates and we file the required airspace permissions before every flight.
What this means for you: not every location can be flown. Areas within 5km of airports, certain military zones, and some heritage sites have restrictions. We check every venue in advance and will tell you honestly what's possible.
Ideal Conditions for Drone Footage
Drone footage is best in: - Light winds (below 20 km/h) - Good visibility (no fog or heavy overcast) - Golden hour or late afternoon light
We cannot fly safely in heavy rain, high winds, or thunderstorm conditions. Kerala's monsoon season (June–August) makes drone filming difficult and sometimes impossible. We always have a contingency plan.
How to Include Drone in Your Package
Drone coverage is available as an add-on to any Camrin Films package. It includes a minimum of 30 minutes of flight time, edited aerial sequences integrated into your wedding film, and a set of high-resolution aerial stills.
Reach out to discuss your venue and we'll give you an honest assessment of what's possible. The right aerial sequence can turn a beautiful wedding film into something truly breathtaking.
